Media Release - Explore and win with EarlyON Northumberland’s Discovery Passport contest

Media Release

Cobourg, ON – November 6, 2024 – Families with young children are invited to explore EarlyON Northumberland programming this November and check off destinations and activities in their EarlyON Discovery Passport for the chance to win! This fun new challenge encourages families to discover the many locations, partners and programs that offer free EarlyON family programming throughout Northumberland, while strengthening their learning and connection together.

Northumberland County’s EarlyON Child and Family Centres offer a wide range of free drop-in programs for families with children ages six and under. Families can attend regular programming at one of our eight locations across Northumberland, as well as special programming at various partner facilities, including local community centres, libraries, family-friendly destinations and parks.

During the passport contest period, participants are challenged to collect five (5) or more stamps from various EarlyON centres, programs or partner locations to receive a small prize and be entered to win one of two $100 Indigo gift cards.

EarlyON Northumberland offers families the opportunity to engage in play-based learning activities, while connecting with other families in the area. A versatile program schedule is designed to accommodate the diverse needs of busy families, with sessions available on weekdays, weekends, mornings, and evenings. Families are invited to participate in indoor and outdoor exploration, Indigenous teachings, family hikes, story time, and special programs tailored to new or expecting parents.

“We are thrilled to introduce our new EarlyON Discovery Passport contest,” states County Early Years Services Manager Lesley Patterson. “After the resounding success of our Family Fun Bingo Challenge, held earlier this year from February to March, we aimed to create a new and engaging way to connect with local families. EarlyON Northumberland greatly values the importance of building relationships and offering safe spaces to grow and thrive in the community. With this contest, we invite parents, grandparents and caregivers to visit new EarlyON locations or programs, meet new families in their neighbourhood, and to feel welcomed to play, learn and explore together.”

To participate in the EarlyON Discovery Passport contest, families can pick up a passport at their local EarlyON Child and Family Centre or print one off at home by visiting the EarlyON Northumberland website. Participants can show their passport to EarlyON or partner staff to receive a stamp for visiting a destination or completing an activity in their passport.

Families who successfully ‘fill’ their passport by collecting five (5) or more different stamps may submit their passport to their local EarlyON Educator by November 30, 2024, to receive a small prize and to be entered into the grand prize draw.

For more information, or to print your passport at home, visit Northumberland.ca/EarlyON. Print copies are also available for pickup at your local EarlyON Child and Family Centre.
