Media Release - Public Notice: County advises of ‘speeding ticket’ text scam

Media Release

Cobourg, ON – January 7, 2025 – Northumberland County Court Services would like to make community members aware of an ongoing text scam that has been circulating locally.

The County has been alerted that some members of the public are receiving fraudulent text messages from phone numbers and emails claiming to be from the 'Ontario Courts' or contact addresses such as ‘pay@ontario-traffictickets.com’. These texts often refer to speeding or parking tickets that require payment. These messages may include malicious links that could put your personal information at risk.

Please note that Northumberland County Court Services will not contact you by text message. Never click any suspicious links asking for ticket payment or personal information by text.

To securely check the status of your ticket or pay a fine, please contact our office directly by calling 905-372-3329 ext. 5300 or visit our website at Northumberland.ca/Tickets.

If you receive a text message of this nature, please do not click any links. Report the message as spam to your cellular provider, and discard the message.

If you are ever in doubt of the legitimacy of a sender or message, please reach out to the person/organization directly, using a different contact method, to confirm the message. Make sure to verify the information with the sender using a trusted communication channel before you click any links or open any attachments that you were not expecting to receive.
